Mouse - Mouse Setup - Lab 1

Follow the steps below to install a mouse and mouse driver.

1. Ask your instructor for a computer and mouse.

2. Connect the "serial mouse" to the RS232C connector on the computer.

3. From a DOS prompt, create a \mouse subdirectory.  Install the mouse driver in that subdirectory.

4. Modify the autoexec.bat or config.sys file to automatically load the mouse driver at boot up time.

5. Install a DOS program that uses a mouse.

6. Execute the DOS program and verify correct operation.

7. Start Windows 95.

8. Verify that the mouse is operational. Change the mouse settings to reverse the right and left buttons.

9. Change the speed of the double click using the settings.

10. Demonstrate your changes to your instructor.

11. Use the MSD program in DOS to determine which IRQ is being used for the mouse. Record the IRQ number.

12. Remove the directories and drivers that you created.  Put the computer back to the original state that you found it in.
